# When an article is updated, are the embeddings automatically updated?

This is an FAQ answer for the [SmartSearchWP chatGPT plugin for WordPress](https://www.smartsearchwp.com/en/).

In the free version, no: embeddings are **not updated automatically** when content is modified.

In the **list of contexts**, modified content is flagged with a **colour code**. You can also filter the view to show only content that is **out of date**.

You then need to regenerate the embeddings for this content **manually** (possibly in batches). This choice was made so as **not to consume OpenAI API tokens unnecessarily**, and therefore to limit your costs.

With the Premium [RAG Auto Sync](https://www.smartsearchwp.com/en/docs/does-the-rag-auto-sync-addon-automatically-regenerate-embeddings/) add-on, yes: embeddings of active content are regenerated automatically after each modification. The add-on asks for confirmation before enabling this automation, because each regeneration uses OpenAI credits.
