# I’ve a critical error. What should I do?

### Step 1: Check your email

- Administrator email: Check your site administrator's email inbox for instructions. WordPress usually sends an email with details of the error and possible steps to resolve it.

### Step 2: Access WordPress recovery mode

- Recovery mode link: The WordPress email may contain a special link to put your site in recovery mode. This allows you to log in and deactivate the problematic plugin.

### Step 3: Deactivate the plugin

1. Connect to WordPress: Use the recovery mode link to connect to your WordPress admin panel.
2. Navigate to Plugins: Go to the 'Plugins' section.
3. Deactivate all plugins other than Smartsearch and reactivate them one by one: You should find the plugin that is in conflict.

### Step 4: Diagnose the error

1. Check the error logs: Consult your server's error logs for details of the critical error.
2. Check the smartsearch plugin error log
3. Contact support: If you are unable to resolve the problem, contact SmartSearchWP support for further assistance: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/smartsearchwp/
